Speaking about the film, he said, ”MS Dhoni was one the most amazing experiences I ever had. Not many know that during my school days, I was a brilliant Cricket player. I played a number of tournaments and under 16 Madhya Pradesh. However, with time the tide went towards dramatics and then I also got my admission at St. Xaviers College Mumbai because I was brilliant in my academics too. So cricket was love but it definitely took a back seat. As you know once you love a sport it remains with you life long.”
He further added, ”I was specifically looking for a film which was based on cricket in which I can act so it will satisfy me as an actor and as a cricketer. I auditioned for MS Dhoni. It was a small part of Shabbir Hussain, school team captain of MS Dhoni but I wanted to do it because I knew the film was going to be historical.”
Jain revealed that the film was released on his birthday which makes it way more special.
Ashrut also talked about the football match they had just before leaving for Ranchi with the crew. ”It was directors XI v/s actors XI. I scored the goal of my own team ‘by mistake’ and this made me a blue-eyed boy of directors eleven”, he said.
Speaking about the time spent on the sets with the late actor, he said, ”Sushant is a classic example of how to acquire sporting skills as an actor. He has set a benchmark for generations to come. At times, from a distance, it was difficult to judge whether it was MSD on-field or SSR. I remember him practising to perfection for hours. For years, the MS Dhoni biopic will be an encyclopaedia for actors who want to bring alive a sportsperson on the silver screen.”
The film also featured Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla and Kranti Prakash Jha in supporting roles.
