MUMBAI: Amid the rising Covid-19 cases in the city, the BMC on Tuesday instructed school teachers to go back to the work from home arrangement until further notice.

In a circular issued by the BMC, education officer, Mahesh Palkar said, “Teaching and non-teaching staff of all schools in the city will have to work from home to continue e-learning from March 17 (today) until the next order regarding the same.” Currently, schools follow the state’s unlock guidelines issued on October 14 last year which required half of the teaching and non-teaching staff to report to schools at a time for online teaching/tele-counselling and related works in areas outside the containment zones.

According to the circular, staff can register their attendance online and can be called to school for midday meal distribution or other essential tasks. Ashutosh Salil, joint municipal commissioner, BMC said that schools must not call teachers unless very urgent.

Teachers’ associations had been demanding to be allowed to work from home since the Covid-19 cases began to rise in the city.
