BATHINDA: The Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda has dissolved its political wing, which used to take decisions on which political party or leader its followers should support in elections, particularly in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
The Dera confirmed the move, but did not cite any specific reason for the sudden decision. “The Dera is more into social activities and the political wing has been dissolved,” said Harcharan Singh, who is part of 45-member Dera committee.
However, Ram Singh, who headed the now dissolved political wing, claimed some restructuring was on in the Dera wings because of which the decision had been taken.
Although the political influence of the Dera has waned in recent years, it still enjoys considerable support.
