Ensure opposition unity stays intact, Sonia Gandhi tells party | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi urged party managers to ensure that opposition unity stays intact, as she sought due weightage to concerns of other like-minded parties in the opposition’s agenda for the budget session.
At the meeting of the parliamentary party on Monday, sources said Sonia stressed on opposition unity, while members discussed the issues to be taken up in Parliament. A running dilemma, however, is “how much to disrupt the Houses” to force the opposition’s demands, as it was alleged that opposition’s viewpoint was not being considered. Though Hindenburg-Adani issue remains a key priority, the “misuse of agencies” against opposition leaders and the China border standoff are other issues high on agenda. Sources said that the remarks of RS chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar about Rahul Gandhi also figured in the discussions. The post-poll violence in Tripura is also likely to be raised.
The presence of 16 political parties in the meeting held in the chamber of leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised opposition’s hopes. TMC, however, stayed absent from the meetings, like it did on most occasions in the first half of the budget session.
